Accent Wall Build
One of our favorite customers wanted an accent wall addition on his patio to match perfectly with his interior accent wall.
Installing a feature wall and trim moulding made out of PVC is the perfect way to add a touch of style and elegance to a concrete wall. As a professional handyman serving Naples, Florida, I have seen the dramatic difference this type of wainscoting can make in a room. It can instantly add a warm, inviting atmosphere to any space.
Before beginning, make sure you have all the necessary supplies. These include PVC trim moulding, glue, painters’ caulk, paintbrush, screws, drill, and a level. You may also need a jigsaw and circular saw, like we did.
Building outdoors in Florida requires careful consideration of the environment and potential damage from moisture, sun, and wind. PVC is an excellent choice for this project, as it is resistant to moisture, easy to clean, and can last for years. To install a feature wall using PVC, begin by measuring the space and cutting the PVC to fit. Be sure to wear protective gear, such as gloves, goggles, and a dust mask, when cutting PVC.

Once the PVC is cut, mark the wall where the PVC is to be installed. Drill pilot holes into the wall, and then use the appropriate screws to attach the PVC to the wall. Be sure to use screws that are designed for outdoor use (and for this, screws for concrete). Using PVC for a feature wall on a patio in Florida provides several benefits. PVC is resistant to moisture, so it won’t be damaged by rain or humidity. PVC is also easy to clean and maintain, and it can last for years with minimal care. Finally, PVC is an affordable option, so it's a great choice for a budget-friendly project.

Drilling and screwing into concrete surfaces requires a few special techniques. To begin, make sure you have the right tools for the job. You'll need a hammer drill, masonry drill bits, and concrete screws. It's also important to wear safety gear, such as gloves, goggles, and a dust mask. Once you have the right tools, mark the area where you will be drilling and screwing into the concrete. Make sure the area is clear of any debris or obstructions. Then, drill pilot holes into the concrete surface. The size and depth of the pilot holes should match the size and length of the concrete screws you are using. Next, insert the concrete screws into the pilot holes. If necessary, use a hammer to drive them in. Finally, tighten the screws with an appropriate tool. Make sure not to over-tighten the screws, as this can cause damage to the concrete.
Our customer wanted his TV mounted, so we designed a hidden-wire feature behind the wall to give it a premium and clean look. This way everything is tucked away and the finished product is clean.

In a future post, we discuss organizing and hiding electronic device wires, and mounting electronics and smart home devices.

Installing any exterior style feature with PVC is a great way to add a touch of style and elegance to your outdoor space. It can instantly transform the atmosphere. The finished product looked amazing and matches the indoor room perfectly!
